Quando um descolado rapaz da Filadélfia se muda para a Costa Oeste, fatalmente ocorrerá um choque cultural. Mas não se preocupe. Esse rapaz é ninguem menos que Will Smith e ele rapidamente fará toda a vizinhança de Bel-Air dançar conforme sua música! Smith já era aclamado rapper e havia recebido um Grammy quando aceitou o papel desse adolescente esperto e cheio de ginga, que é mandado para casa de seus parentes ricos, em um bairro onde até um ex-presidente costuma bater na porta para desejar Feliz Natal. Como esquecer do primeiro dia de Will no clube de campo (a propósito, por que tantos talherer na mesa?) ou seu dia na Escola Preparatória de Bel-Air (resumidamente,o encontro de um mano com Harvard!).
